Adoption within the Asian Community

Blackburn with Darwen Adoption Service remains committed to the recruitment and approval of prospective adopters from the minority ethnic community.

As an authority we have established strong links with the Muslim Welfare Institute in order to work together to actively promote adoption within the Muslim community. Moulana Hanif Dudhwala, a member of the Muslim Welfare Institute has been central in this initiative and has facilitated meetings with Islamic scholars in Blackburn to discuss the Islamic perspective on adoption and for the scholars to give advice. This has resulted in the Muslim Welfare Institute producing newsletters informing the community of Islamic perspectives on adoption and sharing the story of a Muslim couple who had adopted their child from this agency.

We are able to provide adoption information evenings and adoption preparation training in Urdu by utilising the language skills of existing members of staff within the adoption team, when a specific need has been identified.
