Fly posting

What is fly posting?
Fly posting is when people illegally stick flyers, posters and placards onto buildings, walls and street furniture such as lampposts, benches, telephone boxes etc. These illegal posters can be advertising anything from local events such as car boot sales through to record releases / concert dates for well known musicians and messages stuck up by pressure groups.

Why is fly posting bad?
Fly-posting is an illegal, anti-social activity that reduces the cleanliness and general image of the surrounding area. Fly-posting also has a very bad effect on the people's quality of life, who have to live and work around the area. Some types of fly posting can also be hazardous and can be a real dangerous distraction to car drivers.

What is being done about it?
Blackburn with Darwen borough council is responsible for the removal of the illegally posted advertisements and if we catch anybody fly posting we can issue fines of £75 or even prosecute. We aim to remove all fly posting from public property or street furniture within 5 working days or within 24 hours if it is offensive. You can also report fly posting yourself by calling B-Direct on 01254 585921.
