What is an Eco Hero?

Eco Heroes is a scheme designed to recognise the contribution that children and young people can make to their local environment. We want to warmly congratulate and reward any children or young people who seem particularly keen to improve their local environment and neighbourhood.

An Eco Hero can, for example, be a child or young person who makes sure their area is litter free, someone who picks up their dog’s mess to help keep streets and play areas clean or makes friends and family aware of the importance of recycling. There are lots of other things you can do to help keep your environment clean and tidy- tell us what you are doing!

Do successful applicants receive a reward for being an Eco Hero?

Those who are awarded Eco Hero status will receive a small reward and, following parental consent, may have their picture and details of what they have done to improve their environment/ neighbourhood posted online in the Eco Hero Gallery. This is currently being developed and should be online at www.urbwd.com in Summer 08 along with kids’ information and games on environmental issues.

How can I nominate someone as an Eco Hero?

This reward scheme is open to ALL children and young people within the borough. However it will be everyone’s responsibility (family member / teachers / friends) to recognise any budding talents or potential would-be Eco Heroes within your ranks and let us know so that we can put their name forward for Eco Hero status.
